Digital asset identity with QR/NFC

Summary

Digital asset identity is the foundation of Wertek AI: every piece of industrial equipment (motor, pump, drive, panel, chiller) gets a unique identity on the platform, accessible just by scanning a QR or NFC tag stuck to the equipment. Registering assets is free and unlimited on every plan; managing (adopting) the ones that matter is what activates maintenance, monitoring, and the full history. The commercial principle is: "Register unlimited. Manage what matters."

The problem it solves

In most plants, equipment information lives scattered: illegible nameplates, manuals in a drawer, repair history in the memory of the technician who already left, and out-of-date spreadsheets. When a piece of equipment changes owner, plant, or service provider, its story is lost. The result: diagnostics that start from scratch, wrong spare parts, and replacement decisions made without data. Digital asset identity solves this by making the asset exist digitally before anyone interacts with it, and by ensuring its history travels with the equipment — not with the person or the company of the moment.

What it does

  • Asset registration through three paths:
    • Manual, from the web ("Register Asset") or the mobile app, with name, equipment type, location, and photo.
    • Bulk import via CSV file ("Import"), with prior validation and a preview before confirming.
    • Scanning a QR or NFC tag in the field: if the code is not assigned, the flow lets you create the asset on the spot.
  • Location hierarchy Organization → Plant → Area → Asset, with nested sub-components (e.g., the pump contains its motor and its drive as assets in their own right). The platform suggests typical sub-components based on the equipment type.
  • Declarable connections — identity includes how the equipment relates: beyond where it is, you declare what an instrument measures (the meter measures this panel), what a drive drives (this VFD moves this blower), and what a panel feeds (if this panel goes down, whatever hangs from it goes down too). Declared from the Connections section of the asset's record or by drawing the connection on the plant graph. These connections are not decorative: the platform uses them so alerts land on the right equipment and to compute the impact radius of a failure.
  • QR/NFC tags: printable tag generator per asset, NFC tag writing from the phone, tag verification, "Quick Tag" (create asset + write tag in a single flow), and "Batch Tag" for integrators with pre-loaded batches of codes.
  • Orphan → adopted model: every registered asset is born as an orphan (registered, visible, free, unlimited). Adopting it turns it into a managed asset that counts against the plan limit and unlocks its full administration.
  • Ownership claim: an unowned asset can be claimed by scanning its tag. Definitive ownership requires verification (proof of possession, such as the asset PIN or an invitation from the site administrator) and a paid plan. The strongest evidence always wins, not "whoever got there first."
  • Disputes: if two parties claim the same asset, it enters a disputed state: history frozen read-only, the dispute record visible to the parties, and resolution by evidence through the support team.
  • Asset passport: the history (measurements, work orders, photos, observations, documents) is tied to the asset and can be transferred with it when it changes owner. Ownership is not lost for non-payment: if the license expires, the data remains intact and only functions like export and transfer are blocked until reactivation.

Benefits

  • A single source of truth per piece of equipment: any authorized person scans the tag and sees what it is, where it is, and what has happened to it.
  • Frictionless start: registering the whole plant costs nothing; you pay only for the assets you decide to manage.
  • History that isn't lost: equipment knowledge survives staff turnover, provider changes, and the sale of the asset.
  • Protection for the real owner: the ownership model with verification and dispute prevents a third party from appropriating the history of someone else's equipment.
  • The foundation for everything else: diagnostics, monitoring, maintenance, and energy all anchor to this identity — no duplicates, no phantom equipment.

Experience on the web platform

In the sidebar, the Assets & Equipment group concentrates the flow: Assets (list and detail), Register Asset (individual creation with QR), and Import (bulk CSV upload with preview). Each asset's detail shows its hierarchy, sub-components, photos, history, linked sensors, and access to measurements and work orders. The Organization → Plant → Area structure is managed from the same section.

Experience on the mobile app

The mobile app (iOS/Android) is the primary field tool for identity: scanning QR codes and NFC tags to open or create assets, a claim flow with an immediate result (orphan available, already claimed, or in dispute), asset creation and editing, capturing photos and observations, tag generation, NFC tag writing and verification, "Quick Tag" to label equipment on site, and "Batch Tag" for integrators. It also lets you start an ownership dispute and link sensors to the newly adopted asset.

Availability by plan

Registering orphan assets is free and unlimited on every plan, including the Free plan. What varies by plan is the number of adopted (managed) assets: the Free plan includes a reduced number of adopted assets to try out the platform, and the Technical, Monitoring, Prescriptive, and Enterprise plans expand that limit along with users and capabilities. The exact amounts and limits per plan are in Plans and pricing, which is the authoritative document.
