How the energy module works in Wertek AI
How it works (concept)
Wertek AI's energy module ingests periodic readings from electrical meters — voltage, current, and power per phase, power factor, energy, and THD — and turns them into consumption dashboards, a virtual CFE-style invoice, alerts, and power-quality monitoring. Meters connect in two ways: through an energy gateway installed on site, or with cellular-connectivity meters that report directly. The integration library covers more than a dozen models from 10 brands (Eastron, Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, Carlo Gavazzi, Finder, Janitza, CHINT, SATEC, and Acrel).
Each meter can represent the main service entrance, the submetering of a panel or tenant, or the consumption of a specific asset — and it links to that asset's digital identity, so electrical anomalies feed the same history as diagnostics and maintenance. What the full solution solves (virtual billing, tenant portal, Grid Code): Energy and power quality. This guide teaches you how to use it.
First 15 minutes
What you need to connect your first meter. Meter setup is handled with you by the Wertek team or your integrator — it isn't a self-service process, because it requires electrical-installation data. Have on hand:
- Meter brand and model (or the decision to install one of the supported models).
- Connectivity type: on-site energy gateway (requires power and internet or a data SIM) or cellular meter.
- Measurement-point data: which panel or asset it measures, CT transformation ratio if applicable.
- Site tariff (CFE tariff type and zone, or a fixed rate) — it can be configured later, but without it the virtual invoice won't show amounts.
How to validate the meter came alive: on the web, go to Energy, open the meter, and verify the live metrics (voltage, current, power) are updating. The first readings can take 5 to 10 minutes after connection. A voltage consistent with your installation (e.g., ~127 V per phase in low voltage in Mexico) is the quick sign the scaling came out right.
Step-by-step flow
- Connect the meter (with the Wertek team or your integrator) and validate the live metrics.
- Check consumption: the Energy dashboard shows consumption by day and month, demand, and comparisons by meter and by site.
- Configure the tariff: in the site settings, the Tariff Configuration section, choose CFE Tariff (by tariff type and zone) or Fixed Rate. With the tariff configured, the Virtual CFE Invoice breaks down fixed charge, energy charge, demand charge, and power-factor adjustment, with tax — always as an estimate, not an official bill.
- Create a multi-tenant property (plazas, buildings, condominiums): in Energy → Commercial Properties, press New Commercial Property — name, address, logo and colors, $/kWh rate, and fixed charge. Then Add Tenant: name, unit or office (e.g., "Unit 12A"), and the corresponding meter.
- Share the tenant portal: each tenant has its own URL (via the Copy URL button). The tenant opens it with no account needed and sees their month's consumption, estimated bill, 7-day chart, and live metrics, branded with your property's identity.
- Capture manual readings when a point has no connected meter: in the mobile app, open the asset and use Meter Readings to record the display reading. Administrators manage these on the web under Provider → Meter Readings and Energy Allocation (a section visible for organizations registered as service providers).
- Enable Grid Code (Mexico): in Settings → Grid Code Profiles, select the country/regulation; the Grid Code section checks your measurements against the regulatory limits (power factor, unbalance, THD) and generates the compliance report.
Common issues and fixes
- "No energy data is coming in" — the meter must be configured and connected: verify the gateway's power, its internet connection, and the meter's communication parameters. If it's a cellular connection, confirm the SIM has data.
- "The meter stopped reporting" (stale) — it's almost always power or connectivity of the on-site gateway: check that the gateway is powered on and has active internet/SIM before escalating.
- "The virtual invoice doesn't match my CFE bill" — it's an estimate based on the meter's data, not an official bill: the real bill can differ due to demand charges, power-factor penalties, and utility adjustments. Also confirm that the tariff and zone configured for the site are the correct ones.
- "The invoice shows no breakdown" — the tariff isn't configured: the platform indicates this with the prompt to configure the CFE tariff in the site settings, instead of inventing amounts.
- "Readings show zero or absurd values" — this is usually measurement-point configuration (CT ratio or scaling): report it to support or to your integrator with the meter name to correct the setup.
- "The meter got linked to the wrong asset" — request the link correction from support or your integrator; don't delete the meter, so you don't lose the reading history.
What's next
- Power quality in depth: THD, unbalance and — at the module's Pro tier — voltage events (sags/swells) and SMS alerts. Detail in Energy and power quality.
- Continuous compliance: use the Grid Code report monthly as evidence of power-factor management.
- Energy + asset condition: correlate electrical anomalies with the same equipment's vibration and temperature (diagnostics guide) and turn findings into work orders (CMMS guide).
- Whole buildings: if you manage a property with a BMS, start with the buildings guide.
